Arts-integrated instruction supports diverse student populations and accelerates student learning and achievement by encouraging students to use their “multiple intelligences” to process and express their new knowledge and skills. An arts-integrated, standards-based curriculum and an emphasis on arts education nurtures the intellectual, social, and creative growth of students and builds an inclusive community. LFCSA believes that the arts can be an effective vehicle for developing skills and habits that will benefit students throughout their academic, professional, and personal lives within and beyond the school setting. The arts are, therefore, subjects worthy of their own courses and elements to be incorporated within core subject lessons. In choosing the most beneficial educational program for the diverse population LFCSA will serve, a group of educators and parents read a variety of research studies and consulted with a group of charter schools.
Goals for each content area of instruction are outlined in our Single School Plan and are shared with the school community. The Single School Plan was developed by the School Site Council which is made up of teachers, parents, staff and an administrator. The Council worked together over a course of three months to write the Single School Plan. It reviewed our Charter, our philosophy, our curriculum, and the California State Standards of Instruction in writing goals.
